What the Strapped In Back Actually Does

The criss-cross straps do two things. They hold the keyhole opening in position so it does not gape or shift during a set, and they leave the shoulder blades completely clear, which is what most swimmers are after when they move away from a fuller back.

It is a design that gets noticed on pool deck, and that is part of the appeal for a swimmer old enough to care what she trains in. It is also more strap to get into than a Diamond Back — worth knowing if she is the sort to be running late to a 5am session.

Higher Cut Than Its Sisters

Funkita cuts the Strapped In with a higher leg and rear than the Diamond Back or Single Strap One Piece. It still covers properly through a session, but it is a noticeably more open cut. One honest caveat, and it applies to any light-coloured swim print rather than this one specifically: pale sections of a print can become more revealing when wet than they appear dry. If that is a concern for her, a darker print is the safer pick.

Sizing

Available in girls sizes 8, 10, 12 and 14. Funkita girls sizing is not interchangeable with ladies sizing even where the measurements look close — a ladies 8 runs roughly 4cm longer in the body than a girls 14 and is cut for a more developed figure. Go by torso length rather than age when she is near the top of the girls range.

Care

• Cold hand wash separately with a mild detergent — no machine, no soaking, no bleach
• Dry flat in the shade, never in a dryer or direct sun
• Avoid sitting on rough concrete pool edges, which abrades any swim fabric
